Woodbine Race 6: 1 ¼ Mile on Turf.
(2) Danish Dynaformer makes his 3rd start of the year for trainer Roger Attfield after finishing 5th beaten just 2 ½ lengths in the Elkhorn down at Keeneland last time out. Danish Dynaformer is an Ontario bred son of Dynaformer by Danish Wildcat and has consistently raced in graded stakes company throughout his career, and while it has a been a long time since he’s last won he will appreciate the 1 ¼ distance of today’s race. He owns 2 wins from 6 career starts over the Woodbine turf course.
(4) Johnny Bear will make his first start off a November layoff for trainer Ashlee Brnjas and shows a strong workout tab for his return. While his last 2 races weren’t anything to talk about 3 starts back he upset the Grade 1 Northern Dancer on this turf course at Woodbine. If the 7 year old son of English Channel can run back to his better races he will be one of the ones to beat in this deep allowance field.
(9) Final Copy like our top choice is also trained by Roger Attfield and is also returning from a race down at Keenland. He will make his 3rd start of the year and look to rebound after poor showings in the slop last time out and going longer in the McKnight down at Gulfstream Park in January. Final Copy should be able to workout a nice stalking trip under Woodbine stalwart Patrick Husbands, and owns 3 wins and a runner up finish from his 4 starts over this track at Woodbine.
(7) Scholar Athlete will look for his 3rd win in a row and 4th in his last 5 starts shipping in for trainer Graham Motion. He should be forwardly placed and will be a major threat in here after beating the well regarded Wake Forest last time out. While Scholar Athlete hasn’t run this far yet, he should be able to handle it if he can work out an easy pace.
The rest: (1) King and His Court goes out for Mark Casse and returns to the turf after trying the synthetic track last time out. He had faired well in his turf races prior to that finishing 2nd, 3rd and 3rd in the previous three (behind Final Copy in 2 of those races). (3) Noble Thought ships up from Tampa after winning last time out, but is 0 for 3 over this turf course and has finished behind rivals Johnny Bear and Scholar Athlete before. (5) Small Bear made his 2018 debut in the Fort Marcy at Belmont Park finishing a non threatening 9th and would need to take a step forward here for trainer Jeremiah Englehart to challenge the top contenders. (6) English Illusion steps up in class after losing a $35K OC down at Gulfstream Park. He faired better at Woodbine last year but finished behind Johnny Bear 3 times. (8) Bangkok makes his 2018 debut and returns to the turf after racing on the synthetic track in his last 3 starts of 2018. Prior to those races Bangkok ran 4rh in the Grade 2 Nijinsky at this distance over this track. On his best day he can threaten in here.
