Overall many more hits than misses, the highlight moment was Peter Miller. He told the story of the heroes from the San Luis Rey fire. How they risked their lives to save the horses from certain death. It would have been nice to have had several of the heroes on stage. Another nice moment was Kelley Stobie & Shelly Blodgett of the CAA thanking those who came together to help with relief efforts in Puerto Rico.
Jose Ortiz deservingly won the outstanding jockey of the the year award, his first time winning this. Jose rode 270 winners & accumulated $27.3 million in purse money.
Gun Runner won the Horse of the Year to no ones surprise. He then went out in big style convincingly winning yesterdays Pegasus World Cup race. Trainer Steve Asmussen did a great job keeping Gun Runner in top form.
The only close vote of the evening was the 2 Year Old Colt Award where Good Magic edged out Bolt D’Oro 131-113. I feel the voters got this one wrong Magic shouldn’t have gotten the award because he won the BC Juvenile.
West Coast won the best 3 Year Old award in a romp owned by Gary & Mary West. Gary & his wife are some of the nicest people in the entire industry.
39 of the 269 voters decided to just be lazy & not place a vote for the Steeplechase Eclipse award winner. Why not just do some research & place a vote?
Chad Brown won his 2nd straight trainer award
Two Year Old filly winner Caledonia Road
Three Year Old filly winner Abel Tasman
