Churchill Downs: September 17, 2017, By Trent Ledbetter

With a Saturday full of College Football and a Fantasy Football filled Sunday I didn’t handicap the full Churchill Card. Instead I picked 3 of my locks of the day and I think we can get a price on at least one. After yesterday’s Stakes filled card where we saw some Derby and Oaks hopefuls, today we see a few high end Optional Claimers and Maidens.

Race 3

My first pick comes in Race 3 an Optional Claimer going 5 furlongs on the Turf. I chose the 3-Platinum Prince here. He looked like he returned to his form in the last and although was third finished within less than a half length. He gets Leparoux on the Churchill Turf and also Blinkers for this race and I think thats he needs.

Race 6

My next selection comes in race 6 with 2-Pretty Greeley. This is a 30,000 Claimer for fillies and mares going 6 furlongs and features a few runners who were in the same field a while back at Ellis Park. The scratch of the 6 leaves the door wide open for the 2 and I think we see her and Calvin Borel reach the Winners Circle. The only question I have for her is how she likes this track, with a rough record previous on here I’m hoping she turns it around today.

Race 10

My last selection comes in the last race of the day a 25,000 Claimer on the turf going a mile. I really like the 2 here Dujac. He was a near miss last out and I think his main competition in Sportscaster draws to the way outside. He should get the rail trip here and I think that sets him up for a win. He along with my last pick have had some trouble here at Churchill, but I think this Chris Landeros/Ian Wilkes combo finishes the day out with a win.
