We didn’t have the best of days yesterday at Del Mar, but everything is a learning experience so let’s take another stab at a few more races there today. Once again if there are any questions, comments, criticisms or tips please feel free to direct them to me @JasonNYM on twitter.
Race 1: Tatters to Riches (5) is a son of Union Rags out of an A.P. Indy mare Poco Mas and has posted 4 sharp workouts in a row, but may not offer much value in a field where 6 of the 7 runners are first time starters. Jungle Warfare (6) is the only member of the cast with a race under his belt and ran an even 3rd that day, but is eligible to improve for Hollendorfer who is 21% 2nd time out.
Race 2: Lady Cloud (2) Drops after 3 poor efforts at Santa Anita, but had fared well in all 3 starts at Del Mar last season and has a shot a decent price in this field. My alternate selection in here would be Mama’s Sugar (1) who has been off around 10 months, but shows a solid work tab dropping to a career low.
Race 4: Table for Three (1) ran well versus similar in her last start and could get a nice trip sitting off likely speed Munny Spunt (5) who is going first time off the claim for Doug O’Neill which has been a 20% win angle for him.
Race 6: Lake Time (9) makes her 2nd start off the layoff and could get a favorable set up with all the speed signed on in here. Precious Dixie (5) steps up off an impressive maiden win and will likely be one of the speeds. Delitefull Lady (3) returns from a 6 month break facing winners for the 1st time but showed ability when breaking her maiden in January.
Race 7: Arrowsphere (9) cuts back to 1 mile and could sit a nice stalking trip outside Robin’s Love (7) who I expect to be one of the main speed horses in here. Scandal (3) will likely sit off the pace and make a late run, but has finished second in six consecutive races which includes finishing ahead of Arrowsphere two back.
Race 9: The Grade 1 $300,000 Bing Crosby will be Saturday’s featured race at Del Mar and it draws a pretty good field of sprinters going 6 furlongs on the dirt. Ransom the Moon (4) has turned in 3 good efforts in a row since changing barns to Phil D’Amato and switching to conventional dirt. He should sit a stalking trip in here but will need his best to beat Drefrong (2) who makes his seasonal debut off his win in last November’s Breeders Cup Sprint. Drefong will look for his 6th consecutive win and 3rd straight Grade 1 score in this race. St. Joe Bay (3) returns after a solid 4th place finish in the Dubai Golden Shaheen and could be the one battling with Drefong in the early portion of the race. Roy H (8) ran a huge race shipping cross country to win the True North at Belmont last time out. A repeat of that effort puts him right in the mix here.
